Petitions with almost 1,200 signatures were submitted to the Amherst Town Board Monday night , demanding that land for a major low- income apartment complex in the Willow Ridge area be rezoned for one-family homes. The petitions say the less intensive residential land use is needed to avoid undue pressure on roads, schools, sewers, water lines and power sources, and to "protect the sense of community" that Willow Ridge residents share . The Benchmark Group has already filed plans for the first phase of a complex of more than 350 apartments near Niagara Falls Boulevard and Willow Ridge Drive . It was awful. Terrible. Probably one of the worst movies given a wide release in theaters that year. But it was also cheap, produced for a modest $10 million budget, allowing it to make enough money to justify a sequel. And now, seven years later, the trailer for that sequel has arrived. And it looks…not bad? Perhaps that’s because Beyond Skyline features a new cast, a new setting, a new director, and only a tenuous connection to the original movie . To be fair, the Beyond Skyline trailer (originally unveiled over at AICN) isn’t going to appeal to those who aren’t already okay with watching low- budget science fiction movies  that look like they’re one step removed from premiering on SyFy. But this looks like a very, very good low- budget science fiction movie , the kind of B- movie junk food...

MOUNT VERNON — A fourth suspect in the Aug. 1 shooting death of a Mount Vernon man was arrested Monday afternoon in Kennewick. The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force , in conjunction with the Benton County Sheriff ’s Office, arrested the man at 2:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Fourth Street , Mount Vernon Police Lt . Chris Cammock said. He is one of four people arrested in connection with the death of 38-year-old Jason Boyes. Advertisement The man was arrested without incident and will be held on a second- degree murder charge , Cammock said. The others being held in connection with Boyes’ death are Isaac Manuel Carrasco Jr ., 21; Hayden John Allen Picaman , 19; and Angel Lopez-Rueda, 18. All pleaded not guilty Aug. 10 to one count each of second-degree murder. Carrasco and Picaman are both being held on $1 million bond. Lopez-Rueda is being held on $500,000. City Council members found themselves divided in their answers on Tuesday, but scraped together just enough votes to keep alive a rental housing building planned for the edge of Old Town. Two months after the Planning Commission rejected the Bridgeview Apartments, a split council revived the project on a 3-2 vote despite concerns it would worsen parking and traffic on the narrow streets around Riverside Drive. The vote sets up a final decision by the council on approving the apartments, a move that will require finalizing an agreement with its developer to set aside three units for families earning less than the local median income and guarantee that other tenants can continue using federally funded Section 8 vouchers to pay their rent. Black and white photos from the 1960s show rows of turnip plants and herds of grazing dairy cows owned by farmers. “I remember the stories of how they would take the cows under the freeway after they built Interstate 8, or 80 back in those days,” said Rob Hutsel, a fourth- generation San Diegan . “The deal with the landowner was he still had to get his cows to the river. And so they left a tunnel under it so they could take their cows down to the river to get their water... The suspect in a July 30 armed robbery at the Dollar General Store in the Saddlebrook area off Ky. 192 was arrested on Tuesday morning. Dustin Ryan Gregory , 26, of Manchester, was located in an apartment in Manchester by Manchester City Police working in conjunction with the Laurel County Sheriff 's Office. Gregory is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, and receiving stolen property over $10,000. Gregory reportedly entered the store around 7:48 p.m. that Sunday evening and took money from the clerk on duty, then fled the scene in a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that day. Sheriff's Deputy Travis Napier was in the vicinity when the call of the robbery was sent out by Laurel Dispatch and pursued the suspect vehicle.
