Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Area Apartment Complex

MURRIETA, CA — A Temecula woman was arrested Tuesday night for suspicion of driving under the influence after reportedly plowing into a Murrieta apartment complex and creating havoc for the building's residents, according to police. The Murrieta Police Department was called at 8:49 p.m. to the report of a vehicle that crashed into the housing unit near Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Calle Del Lago . Responding officers, along with crews from Murrieta Fire and Rescue, found the woman trapped inside her white, four-door vehicle that was three feet off the ground and wedged into the corner of the building, police said. The driver, Nichole Winters, 41 of Temecula, was extricated from the sedan and determined by officers to be under the influence of alcohol, the agency said. Winters was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta for suspicion of driving under the influence. Damage to the apartment required the elec...

Want to Avoid Other Tourists When You Travel? Here's Where to Go

Image
Travelers have clocked 369 million international trips so far this year, an incredible sum equal to nearly 1. 6 million trips per day. Year to date, it’s 21 million more passport stamps than were achieved in early 2016. And s ome of the most popular destinations simply can’t handle the volume. Look no further than Venice. As the floating city deals with the threat of rising tides, it’s also being flooded by cruise ships and mass tourism, turning a romantic paradise into a mashup between Disney World and Times Square. Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Dubrovnik are also feeling the crunch. This year they have all taken steps to curb tourism, seeing it as a burden on locals rather than a bastion of economic opportunity. “A large part of these overcrowding issues is directly correlated to cruising,” said Melissa Biggs Bradley , founder and chief executive of the travel membership club Indagare . “In Dubrovnik, when there are two cruise ships in port and you have 3,000 extra people in the old...

Villa Del Sol Apartments - Anaheim, California

Image
Rent-wise, it's pretty good (but then again, the less amenities, the lower the rent). Landscaping looks decent and is well maintained. No central a/c (it's also old-looking, and the air flow is poor), no swimming pool (the owners had it covered). Old kitchen unit. The only ceiling fan is in the dining room. Apartments have aluminum windows (doesn't help much when it's hot outside). The tenants are nice, the complex is mostly noise-free (this apt complex is not ideal for people who like to party and be loud). Unfortunately, maintenance employees aren 't around all the time and it could sometimes take more than a day for them to fix any problem you might have. Floor level apartments seem to have lizard and cockroach problems (I'm on the 2nd floor and have only seen a couple of spiders, and a house centipede). Office employees rarely answer their phone. I'd recommend living here, only if you plan on having a fan or two in each room and don't mind any of t...

House-flipping is all the rage. But beware – it’s a lot harder than it looks on TV

Image
House-flipping hit its highest levels last year since before the recession as investors seek to capitalize on rising home prices and a seller’s market with tight inventory. But the process is nothing like what you see on TV, where it looks like a home can be bought, gutted, renovated and resold in less than an hour – not including commercial breaks . The truth is often much messier, real estate professionals in Charlotte said. “It’s a lot easier to lose money in this business than it is to make it,” said Jeff Johnson, owner of NewPath Properties , which specializes in buying and rehabbing distressed properties . Still, that’s not deterring people from giving it a try in Charlotte. First-quarter figures from Attom Data Solutions show flips – defined as the same property selling twice in a 12-month period same year – made up more than 6 percent of sales in the Charlotte region, or 540 sales. House-flipping increased almost 4 percent from a year ago, though it remains well below the cit...
