View Full Caption DNAinfo/Maya Rajamani CHELSEA — The new owner of a West 26th Street building plans  to tear it down to make way for a “high-end” apartment complex — just steps from a stalled construction site that has continued to be a magnet for rats and trash, neighbors said. Gary Vinbaytel purchased the five- story building at 128 W. 26th St. between Sixth and Seventh avenues, which formerly housed the restaurant Tre Dici , for around $10.1 million in July. He recently filed for permits to demolish the current building and construct a 14-story, mixed-use building in its place, city Department of Buildings records show . The complex will contain 10 to 12 apartments and have a commercial space on the ground floor, Vinbaytel told DNAinfo New York. “It’s going to be really nice — it’s going to [have]...

Gracepoint gifts senior residents with new home

SEMINOLE HEIGHTS — When Mary Myles became program manager of The Graham Home 25 years ago , 30 adults with special needs occupied 65 square-foot apartments. "It was tough on Mary when the place closed," said Gracepoint project manager Susan Morgan . "She'd be the one putting a bucket out when it leaked." Today, a partnership between Gracepoint and DDA Development has brought about a suitable replacement for the senior living facility . The Graham reopened last month and now Mary Myles sits in a corner office on the same property, overlooking a community garden and lush landscape. The 80 residents now occupy 646 square-foot apartments. No need for a bucket. "We wanted to create something better for them," Myles said. Gracepoint privately funded the project, the first affordable housing units Gracepoint built from the ground-up using low income housing tax credits and a loan from the state of Florida. "Mary had been making do with nothing,...

University Place apartments on the rise, office building next | Orem News

OREM -- If you think you've been hearing about the University Mall development becoming a major development called University Place for a long time, you're right. As early as April 2013, members of the Orem City Council and department heads were informed of preliminary discussions on the development and were asked to sign non-disclosure statements. All the council members except Brent Sumner signed the agreements. It wasn't until the cat was let out of the bag at the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Summit in September 2013 that people finally got an idea of what was in the works. At that summit, Coldwell Banker executive agent Brandon Fugal announced University Mall would undergo a huge transformation, introducing its own business park and housing developments along with additional retail expansion . "It will be Utah County's equivalent of City Creek," said Fugal at the time, comparing the Orem project to the redeveloped mall in downtown Sal...

J&T Real Estate is asking for a statute of important investment for its package of projects to speed up the construction Font size: A - | A + 44 One of the most valued localities of Bratislava – the embankments of the Danube River – has found itself in the spotlight of developers. Following HB Reavis, J&T Real Estate has as well applied for a statute of an important investment for its package of development projects on both sides of the Danube. In this way it is seeking to simplify the approval process and speed up the construction of a €1.2 billion package of development projects. Within it the developer is promising to build among others another phase of Eurovea, New Lido, a pedestrian bridge via the Danube, and new tram tracks. “In the next five to ten years we would like to see a new modern centre here on both sides of the Danube, which will finally utilise the potential of the river and represent a natural continuation of the Old Town,” said Peter Korbačka from J&T Re...

They plan to demolish the building and redevelop the site, though plans are still forming. A Ryan executive attended a neighborhood meeting Monday night to get feedback from neighbors before polishing up their ideas. "We're going to really pay attention to the context and really listen to the stakeholders," said Tony Barranco, vice president of real estate development for Ryan. He said he expects there will be more than one new building on the block and a mix of residential, commercial and retail uses. The final shape, massing and composition of the buildings will b...

New 61-story tower remakes San Francisco skyline

SAN FRANCISCO — More than 60 stories above the ground, construction workers climb makeshift stairs and cross narrow steel planks to put the finishing touches on Salesforce Tower , now San Francisco ’s tallest building. The $1.1 billion skyscraper has already changed the city’s skyline, towering over old favorites like Coit Tower and the Transamerica Pyramid. Unlike in New York and Chicago, the new 1,070-foot high-rise is a gargantuan presence in this liberal West Coast city . Salesforce Tower and a massive adjoining transit center also embody a larger transition in San Francisco — one that pits the technology industry against the city’s charming neighborhoods. Tech giant Salesforce .com, which provides online software for business, bought the naming rights to the 61-story steel and concrete building, adding to concerns that the tech economy is steamrolling through the city. “All the tech and people the industry is bringing in, you can work two jobs and barely make a living for yo...

Roseville renters forced to leave after balcony collapse

ROSEVILLE, Calif. (KCRA) — Dozens of Roseville families are being forced to vacate their apartments by the end of June after a balcony collapse alerted the city to many safety problems at Shadowbrook Apartments. The city told KCRA 3 on Thursday that the buildings, which are more than 30 years old, have not been well maintained. Advertisement Watch report: Some tenants in Roseville forced to leave after balcony collapse A balcony collapsed two weeks ago with an 11-year-old on it, although the child was not injured. “There’s dry rot everywhere," one resident said. "Any piece of wood you touch is dry-rotted. I think it’s really inexcusable that they took so long to start remodeling the place." The families affected were given notice Tuesday that they must move out by the end of June. That’s after the city forced Watt Property Management to stop construction at the complex and find ways to meet minimum code standards before continuing with the repairs. "The primary...

Still a hidden gem | Outdoors

BANDON — Ten years ago this month, Eugene residents Rex and Carla Smith opened Bandon Crossings Golf Course just south of here on the site of a cattle and sheep ranch a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Nothing in their backgrounds prepared them for the venture. He is a podiatrist, a golf lover who walks the course and plays to a 16 handicap. “As it turns out you don’t have to be a good golfer to own a golf course,” said Carla, a former computer programmer who is at most a social golfer. They thought they would make money, and they haven’t, but they say the course breaks even, not counting their initial investment, which they don’t disclose. They dramatically overestimated the spillover traffic they would get from world- famous Bandon Dunes Golf Resort north of town. “We really thought it was going to be a good economic venture ,” Rex Smith said. “We were wrong about that part.” The plan had been for Rex to retire relatively soon after the opening and run the golf course. “Then once we ...
