ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Orlando tourist strip known most for attracting conventioneers and thrill-seeking visitors — International Drive — is getting another identity. In recent years, thousands of full-time residents have moved into apartments built on the southern end of the 11-mile corridor, which has been renowned for industry gatherings, shopping and attractions. Plans call for thousands more renters — and schools. "It's kind of the rebranding of I-Drive right now," said Luann Brooks, executive director of the I- Drive Business Improvement District . "We've turned into a live and work environment, which has never been seen here before." The I-Drive area has been a permanent address for renters — and also homeowners on Lake Willis — for years. A few dozen people spent their lunch hour Aug . 22 discussing City of Carmel projects as part of the Carmel Small Business Network . Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard spoke in the city council chambers about issues such as property taxes, debt and proposed projects such as purchasing an antique carousel and constructing a luxury hotel. Brainard told the group of business owners he’s sending his 2018 budget to the Carmel City Council and that he expects the tax rate to remain flat. He defended his plan to spend approximately $5 million to acquire an antique carousel built in 1907. “It will make it a more interesting visit to Carmel,” he said. Brainard also explained how it makes financial sense for the city to become part owners of a luxury hotel in the Carmel City Center area . Crews got the call around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday and say flames were already showing when they arrived. Back up was then requested. Crews were able to evacuate the apartment and no one was injured. There were four units in the building but the fire was contained to just one. The other three units have smoke damage. Fruitland officials said it was a first alarm structure fire . Daniel Morozov , a 9-year-old Santa Maria boy who was reportedly abducted by his father after his mother was shot and killed Monday night , has been found safe, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department . Konstantin Morozov , 48, who was the primary suspect in the Monday night shooting on North College Drive in Santa Maria that left his ex- wife Natalia Morozova dead , was shot and killed by Los Angeles Police Tuesday night . Los Angeles Police Department officials confirmed Tuesday night that Morozov was shot at 6:45 p.m. by officers in the city of Encino. According to Officer Mike Lopez with the LAPD, the shooting occurred in the 5500 block of Lindley Avenue.
