In fact we think we are proposing something to help them," said Dennis Ziolkowski of Cumberland Land Partners , who is seeking rezoning alongside local developers Rex Hawkins and Jimmy Settle (not to be confused with this writer). Idle Wilbur site in downtown Lititz eyed for hotel, apartments, bistro and shops | Insider

Image
Lancaster- based Oak Tree Development Group said it has agreed to buy the 11-acre property from Wilbur’s owner, Cargill, for an undisclosed price. “We like projects that are community-centric,” said Oak Tree President Mike O’Brien. “We’re excited to do a project that positively impacts a small town like this.” Oak Tree expects to submit plans to the borough in 60 days. The firm hopes to get them approved by year-end, start construction in early 2018 and complete the venture by March 2019. A name for the project has yet to be selected, said O’Brien. He declined to disclose the project’s cost. “We’re eager to work with Oak Tree,” said Karen Weibel, president of Lititz’s Borough Council . “It’s a local firm. They have a lot of credibility. We’re extremely thankful that the building will be utilized quickly, and not sit there for five or 10 years and invite blight.” Mayor Tim Snyder also was enthusiastic about the plan, saying the new uses “will enhance downtown Lititz . ... Council majority will support additional apartments in crowded Napa neighborhood | Local News

Is the cost of 16 new apartments too high for its Napa neighbors? City Council members found themselves divided in their answers on Tuesday, but scraped together just enough votes to keep alive a rental housing building planned for the edge of Old Town. Two months after the Planning Commission rejected the Bridgeview Apartments, a split council revived the project on a 3-2 vote despite concerns it would worsen parking and traffic on the narrow streets around Riverside Drive. The vote sets up a final decision by the council on approving the apartments, a move that will require finalizing an agreement with its developer to set aside three units for families earning less than the local median income and guarantee that other tenants can continue using federally funded Section 8 vouchers to pay their rent. Architect Stephen Cuddy , who is representing the landowner, Peter Dwares, predicted final approval could come to a vote May 2. Bridgeview would occupy the same 1.4-acre property w...

Whispering Pines senior housing application withdrawn

Image
ROTTERDAM -- Plans to build a multi- faceted senior citizen community off Helderberg Avenue have been withdrawn by the developer in the face of opposition from residents and some Town Board members . Developer Lou Lecce pulled the application for the Whispering Pines senior complex at the end of a two- hour Town Board public hearing on the project Wednesday night . It was the second hearing in three weeks at which many Helderbeg Avenue neighbors spoke against the concept. "It's off the table. We're done," Lecce told the Town Board, after a series of verbal exchanges between Town Board members and the audience. Lecce said the project he proposed was a good one, but he didn't believe any new analyses he could present about traffic impacts or other issues would overcome the opposition of the crowd. "You were never going to convince this crowd of anything except what they wanted to believe," Lecce said. The developer said he still plans to buy the 96-...

Reliable Sports to remain open, affordable housing development in question - News - Holland Sentinel

Reliable Sports owner Ken Vos sold to a different buyer. By Sydney.Smith@hollandsentinel.com (616) 546-4219 Reliable Sports isn ’t going anywhere. After Holland City Council approved an affordable housing development earlier this year, developer General Capital could not secure funding through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority , and Reliable Sports owner Ken Vos sold to another buyer who wants to keep the business open. Vos confirmed that the building is under contract to be sold in a sale that will be finalized at the end of September. The building located at 254 S. River Ave. was sold in July. Vos declined to share who the new owner will be, but said they "are a prominent figure in downtown Holland ." He still plans to retire, and a retirement sale is underway at the store. Since the business will remain open, that means the planned 54- unit affordable housing building Centennial Apartments will not happen — unless the new buyer decides to work with...

Warrick Co. growing, bringing new people to the area

Image
(WFIE) WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) - Warrick County is growing, and the chamber can prove it. Several new developments in the works right now, are bringing people and new businesses to the area.  Take a drive down Highway 66 and you will see a lot of new development. Bigger one's like the Ortonesic hospitals, and medical office buildings to the smaller ones like restaurants and apartments.  Chamber officials say this is a welcome sight. Several new businesses are coming to the area and existing ones, like the Energy Systems Group , are expanding. Because of all the development, new subdivisions are being built as well. What about schools? Chamber officials say the school corporation is thinking ahead too.  Chamber officials say the area planning commission has seen an increase in people submitting building permits over this time last year, and most importantly for land to build on.  Copyright 2017 WFIE. The city of Tampa is on the cusp of a total makeover. With billions of dollars in investment and dozens of new apartment, condo, office and cultural buildings in the pipeline, the city's skyline and surrounding communities are poised to look a whole lot different than what it does today. But dreaming up the future of Tampa doesn't come without its challenges. For all the promises of a new urban core filled with hotels, parks, food halls and stores, there are also potential pitfalls. The Tampa Bay Times identified the five key obstacles that stand in the way of some of the biggest projects proposed in Hillsborough County . 9 Reasons you should add Tallahassee to your list of Must Visit!

Image
Oh Tallahassee, how you surprised me with your amazing placing to visit and amazing dining experiences . Home to Florida State University and the capital city of Florida, there’s a lot to be said for this interesting town . The vibe is very small town but with an artsy flare. Seems like everywhere I looked, there was art to be found. Many of the sides of the building there had the most amazing paintings and there was so much to look at. It satisfied the artsy side of me so much to just be a part of this thriving city for a couple days. Not only was the art scene amazing but this town hosts some pretty cool history as well. But I’ll wait to share more about that on further down. 😉 My husband and I enjoyed spending the weekend in this town (we were past due for a trip without our kids) but quickly realized how kid-friendly this town is. There’s so much to absorb (and EAT!) in Tallahassee, our kids would have loved it just as much as we did. So without further ado, I give you my top...
