Legion program helps vets Re: " Flexible spending needed : Vets," Aug. 15. In reply to and to coincide with the article Flexible Spending Needed : Vets. published August 15th 2017 . I wish to inform the readers that Ontario Command of the Royal Canadian Legion has been helping and housing homeless veterans since 2009. To date, and with the help of our branches, Ladies Auxiliaries amd some outside organizations, Ontario Command has spent in excess of $1.55 million in their outreach program "Leave the streets behind". This program combined with the " Joe Sweeney Fund " and the hard work of many dedicated volunteers has assisted over 517 veterans, in 117 communities across the province. We have housed 290 veterans and assisted with first and last month's rent, utilities, food vouchers, apartment start up items, bus tickets, dental needs and more.
