Michael Roy Nelson, 46, was convicted of a misdemeanor assault charge and received a stay of adjudication for a felony terroristic threat charge stemming from an April 10, 2016, incident in which he attacked his son and father. He was sentenced Monday , Aug. 21, by Pennington County District Court Judge Kurt Maben . Nelson was initially charged with two counts of attempted arson, a felony, but those charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement. A stay of adjudication is not a conviction, but means the case is pending while Nelson is on probation. The charge will be dismissed if he makes it through a five- year probation period . Nelson will be allowed to serve his 90-day sentences in two 45-day periods, court records show , and can spend 30 days of the sentence on house arrest. Witnesses told police Nelson used a match to light an ether can and spray flames at his son, which lit his son's sweatshirt on fire. A local strip club is suing two Ohio agencies to get back a $25,000 fine levied against it due to an alleged nudity violation that put its liquor license in jeopardy. WCI, Inc., which operates Cheeks Gentlemen ’s Club in West Carrollton , has sued the Ohio Liquor Control Commission and the Ohio Dept. of Public Safety in Dayton’s U.S. District Court . Cheeks’ attorney’s, Anthony Cicero and Luke Lirot, said the commission unfairly imposes “enormous and disproportionate fines” against gentlemen’s clubs for liquor license violations . A jury awarded $28.2 million to a woman who was poisoned by carbon monoxide at the Sunridge Apartments in Casper in what could be one of the largest civil judgments in state history. “What I have been told is it’s the largest personal injury verdict in the state of Wyoming,” said Tyson Logan, an attorney from the Jackson law firm that represented the woman, the Spence Law Firm . Amber Lompe, now 23, was poisoned by her furnace in 2011. She has a permanent brain injury that affects her memory, concentration, processing speed, attention and ability to multi-task, Lompe said Friday afternoon. “When I moved in there, I assumed everything was checked out and it was safe for me to live in,” she said. Before the poisoning, Sunridge’s owner and manager ignored warnings that the furnaces were dangerous and needed to be fixed or replaced. The letter to Kushner Companies came in response to a May 23 article co-published by ProPublica and The New York Times Magazine investigating management practices at the rental complexes, most of which are in the suburbs of Baltimore, as well as an article this week in The Baltimore Sun that revealed additional details . WOODMERE - Police say a man with a badge, handcuffs and pepper spray falsely claimed to be a cop to gain entry to a Nassau temple. Officials say 28-year-old Mikhail Mikhaylov, of Queens, showed up to the Temple Young Israel of Woodmere Saturday morning just as services were wrapping up. They say he parked in a restricted spot and told a security guard he was a police officer. He wore an NYPD baseball hat and had the other gear attached to his belt. According to court documents, Mikhaylov got inside the synagogue and told people he had a gun in his car. The head of security stopped and questioned him. Mikhaylov flashed what looked like an NYPD detective shield , and was then asked to show his police identification. Detectives say that's when he went back to his car and took off. After setting fire to a house in 2015, a Fairview Heights man was sentenced to nine years in prison. Michael C. Newton, 25, pleaded guilty to aggravated arson July 27 , almost two years after he was charged with setting the fire. Belleville police and fire departments responded on Nov. 4, 2015, to a fire at the 200 block of N. 46th Street at the Plaza Apartments, according to court documents. Prosecutors said Newton knew someone was home in the apartment buildings at the time of the fire. Newton also was convicted of domestic battery and residential burglary, all unrelated charges. He’ll serve his five-year sentence for burglary and 100-day sentence for the domestic battery concurrently with his arson sentence .

A “person of interest” in the recent shooting of a woman at a Benton City apartment was arrested Thursday in Pasco. Christian M. Hernandez, 24, was picked up at 6:30 p.m. by the Benton County sheriff ’s gang enforcement team . Hernandez, who’s also known as “Lil Criminal” and “Phat Boy,” is being held on investigation of illegal gun possession and a hold from the state Department of Corrections. Mariah Coronado, 22, was shot in the back Aug. 18 at an apartment at Eighth Street and Della Avenue. Several other people were in the apartment at the time. Investigators have said it wasn’t clear if the shooting was an accident. Coronado was picked up by an acquaintance and driven to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. Deputies responded to the hospital after being alerted by medical staff about a gunshot victim. Hernandez is a convicted felon who is not allowed to own or be in control of a gun.
