SAN ANTONIO - A woman who moved to a North Side community to escape crime is feeling disappointed. She said crime has increased in the area. The latest incident is a shooting that happened at her apartment complex over the weekend. The Avana Stone Canyon Apartments are located on Encino Commons just off Highway 281. The resident, who has lived at the apartment complex for years, was afraid to reveal her identity but still wanted to voice her concerns about crime in the whole area.  "When I first moved here the gate was always closed. We had individual numbers. The lights were always lit. It was a good community base ," she said. The woman believes things have gone downhill. A local strip club is suing two Ohio agencies to get back a $25,000 fine levied against it due to an alleged nudity violation that put its liquor license in jeopardy. WCI, Inc., which operates Cheeks Gentlemen ’s Club in West Carrollton , has sued the Ohio Liquor Control Commission and the Ohio Dept. of Public Safety in Dayton’s U.S. District Court . Cheeks’ attorney’s, Anthony Cicero and Luke Lirot, said the commission unfairly imposes “enormous and disproportionate fines” against gentlemen’s clubs for liquor license violations . Aug. 24--An Austin developer has changed course on plans to revamp a San Marcos shopping center . Since taking control of Springtown Center in 2014, Endeavor Real Estate has landed a number of high-profile tenants to fill what was, at the time, a sickly strip mall that was only 10 percent occupied. Additions have included heavy hitters such as Chuy's, Gold's Gym and The Spot, an entertainment venue. While Endeavor had initially been in talks with a number of interested retailers to fill the remaining space in the shopping center , the developer has decided to go another route. Instead, it is demolishing a chunk of the center between Chuy's and the former Target store that's now home to Gold's Gym and The Spot to make way for a multi- story apartment building that will have 233 units with 32,000 square feet of ground- floor retail space . Luxury apartments going up between Brookstown Avenue and Green Street will meet a demand for the advantages in amenities and design that a new building can offer, one of the developers of West End Station says. The $35 million development will provide 229 apartments in a block that’s close to both the center of downtown and the BB&T Ballpark, said Porter Jones, the president of DPJ Residential, a Charlotte-based developer doing its first project in Winston-Salem. “We think Winston-Salem is in the very early stages of growth compared to Charlotte and Raleigh that have experienced a lot of urban revitalization,” Jones said. “We are attracted by the (Wake Forest) Innovation Quarter and what is going on with Wake Forest and Baptist downtown.
