BANDON — Ten years ago this month, Eugene residents Rex and Carla Smith opened Bandon Crossings Golf Course just south of here on the site of a cattle and sheep ranch a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Nothing in their backgrounds prepared them for the venture. He is a podiatrist, a golf lover who walks the course and plays to a 16 handicap. “As it turns out you don’t have to be a good golfer to own a golf course,” said Carla, a former computer programmer who is at most a social golfer. They thought they would make money, and they haven’t, but they say the course breaks even, not counting their initial investment, which they don’t disclose. UPPER WEST SIDE , NY — About 20 pounds of heroin and fentanyl were seized after federal, state and city law enforcement agencies raided an Central Park West apartment doubling as a drug mill, the New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor announced Monday . Four men are facing charges for operating a heroin and fentanyl packaging operation out of the apartment following the sting led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration ’s, NYPD, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the New York State Police . A local strip club is suing two Ohio agencies to get back a $25,000 fine levied against it due to an alleged nudity violation that put its liquor license in jeopardy. WCI, Inc., which operates Cheeks Gentlemen ’s Club in West Carrollton , has sued the Ohio Liquor Control Commission and the Ohio Dept. of Public Safety in Dayton’s U.S. District Court . Cheeks’ attorney’s, Anthony Cicero and Luke Lirot, said the commission unfairly imposes “enormous and disproportionate fines” against gentlemen’s clubs for liquor license violations .
