Fire ravages Three Oaks apartment building: No injuries reported | News

THREE OAKS – No injuries were reported in an early morning fire that caused the evacuation of a 16-unit, two- story apartment building in Three Oaks on Saturday, Aug. 19. Fire Chief David Flick said the alarm of a structure fired came in at 5:40 a.m. and the middle section of the roof was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the Hidden Harbor Villas (formerly Oak Tree Apartments ) at 305 W. A teenager was unable to save her 5-year-old sister from their burning apartment Tuesday night when roaring flames turned the apartment into an inferno, making it impossible to get to the second-floor where the child was watching television, officials said. HICKORY N.C. – A fire started Thursday afternoon at Ridgecrest Apartments, drawing residents out of their apartments to watch as firefighters went to work. Firefighters were called to the apartments on 12th Avenue SE around 3 p.m. Julie Cruz-Mendoza said she was walking her son home from the bus stop when she heard a fire alarm and saw smoke coming out of the second floor windows of Apt. 79. She said she hurried to call 911 and the housing authority. The apartment’s resident, Jamal Wilson, 34, said he was not in the apartment when the fire started. He said a neighbor told him his apartment was on fire and he ran inside and upstairs. SAGINAW TOWNSHIP , MI —  Audrey Fobear, 80, was watching television when the fire alarms started blaring . She headed for the exit with the rest of her neighbors at Lakeside Village , a three- story apartment complex at 4370 Lakeside Circle . Fobear lives three doors down from where the fire started. "I just saw the door open and flames," she said. "Two people were trying to put them out." Two-alarm fire damages Arden Arcade apartments

Ten people have been displaced by a fire that resulted in damage to four apartments in the Arden Arcade area . The two-alarm fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Monday in the 2200 block of Hurley Way. The fire started in an upstairs unit and spread to an adjoining unit, causing extensive damage , said Capt. Chris Vestal, a spokesman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Protection District . Two other units sustained moderate fire damage , and others suffered smoke and water damage, he said. A second alarm was issued because flames were reported coming through the roof of the upstairs apartment and some vegetation near the building was also burning, raising concerns that the fire would spread, Vestal said. An off-duty firefighter from another agency called in the fire report and tried to keep people who had evacuated the building from going back into apartments. MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Emergency crews responded to the scene of a large fire at an apartment complex . The fire started around 5 p.m. Sunday at the Carrington Park Apartments in the 2700 block of Rideout Lane in Murfreesboro. Firefighters said the flames spread quickly and burned through the roof before they were able to extinguish it. Fire displaces 7 at Shadowbrook Apartments in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Seven people have been displaced due to a fire that started in building 12 around 5:30 p.m. at Shadowbrook Apartments on 16th Street in Vero Beach. There were no known injuries. Two separate families in the building have been displaced - one because of the fire, the other due to smoke damage. The American Red Cross is on scene to assess what help the families will need. The fire started in the kitchen and was contained to a single unit. Smoke spread through some of the 10-unit building, according to the battalion chief on scene. The official cause is being investigated but the tenants in the unit told emergency dispatchers it was a grease fire. Five engines, a ladder truck, and one ambulance responded to the fire.

At least eight crews and several chief units battled the fire at Carrington Park Apartments on Rideout Lane. Firefighters arrived on scene at about 4:45 p.m. to see heavy flames. The fire appeared to have started on the third floor of Building K and spread to the attic, spokeswoman Ashley McDonald said. Fire, smoke and water damage have forced all of the residents out. The owners of the complex is working with residents to make sure they have a place to stay, McDonald said. There were no injuries, she said. "We don’t know at this time what caused the fire," she said. "The fire marshal is on scene investigating." A 12- unit apartment building in Tacoma near University Place went up in flames Tuesday afternoon , resulting in a partial roof collapse , Tacoma fire officials said. The two-alarm fire at 2602 Westridge Ave. West started at about 4 p.m. and caused damage to all 12 apartments in the building, but no one was believed to be hurt or missing, said Tacoma Fire Department spokesman Joe Meinecke . By 5:45 p.m., the fire had been mostly contained but firefighters were still working to control hot spots . Six people have been displaced after an early morning fire at a northwest Austin apartment . The fire started around 5:30 am. at the San Marin Apartments on Duval just west of MoPac. Officials say the fire began on a third floor balcony and spread to the attic. Two units were damaged and officials say they are unlivable. 16 units in total were affected. No one was hurt. Officials say the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking material . The estimated cost of damages are $200,000 for structural and $45,000 for content.

Family of 7 escapes apartment fire in SW Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Five kids and their parents escaped a burning apartment overnight in southwest Houston. It happened at the Rama Apartment complex on Woodfair. A neighbor says he and his brother raced to the burning apartment with fire extinguishers, but the intense flames prevented them from getting closer. They said the odor of smoke was the first sign of trouble for them. "I started smelling it and [it was] the best I could've done," said neighbor Carlos Portillo . "I tried to get inside, but it was too hot so I came outside and waited for the firefighters." Portillo also said the children living in the apartment were what concerned him the most, but fortunately, the family managed to get out. Two rooms of the apartment were destroyed.
