(Photo: Russell Studio) Plans to convert the shuttered Americana Lodge in downtown Redding to apartments come before the city Wednesday afternoon . The project has been hailed as a catalyst for the area since The Hignell Companies of Chico announced it was purchasing the former motel late last year. Hignell would transform the property between Pine and Market streets into 24 one-bedroom and 20 studio apartment units that would average between 400 and 500 square feet of floor space. The long retail spine of Sydney Road, Brunswick, just north of Melbourne's CBD, was once a prosperous trading outpost on the way to the goldfields. Allium paid S$24.3 million (RM76.4 million) for the 4,000 sq m site, and intends to build a four-storey, 129-bed facility with a built-up area of 5,600 sq m. The development cost of the project is estimated to be S$40 million to S$45 million. The nursing home is designed to be a premium product in terms of services and facilities, says Bernie Poh, CEO of Allium Healthcare . He says there is demand for this kind of facility among the middle- to upper-income group, especially in the neighbourhood of Venus Drive. “This market segment is quite underserved.” Venus Drive is located just off Upper Thomson Road , an affluent landed housing neighbourhood that includes the Windsor Park G...
