University Place apartments on the rise, office building next | Orem News

OREM -- If you think you've been hearing about the University Mall development becoming a major development called University Place for a long time, you're right. As early as April 2013, members of the Orem City Council and department heads were informed of preliminary discussions on the development and were asked to sign non-disclosure statements. All the council members except Brent Sumner signed the agreements. It wasn't until the cat was let out of the bag at the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Summit in September 2013 that people finally got an idea of what was in the works. At that summit, Coldwell Banker executive agent Brandon Fugal announced University Mall would undergo a huge transformation, introducing its own business park and housing developments along with additional retail expansion . "It will be Utah County's equivalent of City Creek," said Fugal at the time, comparing the Orem project to the redeveloped mall in downtown Sal...

Expansion projects destroying the fabric of neighborhoods

Mark Painter (Photo: (c)Pamela Ebel) Mark Painter served as a judge for 30 years. He is the author of six books and a member of the Enquirer’s Board of Contributors. In 1965, I lived in a basement apartment in Corryville. It was a vibrant neighborhood – a doctor’s office, two delis, an actual mom-and- pop dry cleaner , and perhaps the best bar and restaurant ever – the original Lakewood Tavern at Jefferson and Lakewood. What’s there now? The entire tax-paying environment was destroyed to build the Environment Protection Agency . Not that it couldn’t have been built on empty land nearby – UC and the Feds just wanted it as close to the university as possible. It’s sterile and ugly to boot. The small businesses were gone. The homeowners gone. Tax- paying property replaced by non-taxpaying property. Population lost. When you destroy a neighborhood, you tear the fabric of the community. Connections lost. Roots lost. And so it goes. Buy Photo Several dozen houses in Avondale -- abandoned ...

Villa Del Sol Apartments - Universal Reviews

Image
General Rating:  Rated    on average by 1 people. 1 review(s) By  SubLover  on 6/12/11:    We have lived at the Villa Del Sol apartments on Evelyn and Sunnyvale in Sunnyvale for 8 years. These luxury apartments have many nice characteristics, such as 9 foot ceilings, large rooms, in-home laundry, crown moulding, and large storage rooms . With the underground large garage with ample secure parking , this place met all our requirements. As with most things, there are a few down sides. Frequent false fire alarms plagued the complex for months, but they seemed to have that under control now. The apartment complex is next to the CalTrain tracks. But with the double pain thick windows , the noise is not bad. Plus we like trains, so to be able to look out the rear bedroom windows and see trains going by is an attractive point for us. The rent is high, but reasonable compared to the nearby luxury apartments . With the swimming pool, and exercise room it has most of what is expected in a l...
