Bedford man wants to expand on Amber Alerts

It’s been more than a month since 14-year-old Kaytlynn Cargill was found dead in a north Arlington landfill , a day after she was reported missing from the Bedford apartment complex where she lived. Last week, homicidal violence was listed by the Tarrant County medical examiner as the cause of her death, but little else has been revealed. Charles Clark of Bedford, though, has been busy, collecting more than 1, 300 digital signatures on his petition to change the criteria for issuing an Amber Alert. He said that as a longtime Bedford resident with a teenage daughter, the disappearance and death of Cargill hit especially close to home. The decision to not issue an Amber Alert after Kaytlynn disappeared has been widely questioned, but police followed the guidelines. They did not definitively view her disappearance June 19 as unwilling, one of the criteria, though the department did post on Facebook about a missing person. Neil Smith, 57, who had been the CEO of the finance company Infraccess , was discovered unconscious in his bed at 1 Main St., near Water Street, on June 19 around 1:45 p.m., police said. Investigators believed the death was suspicious from the beginning, and it was later determined he was asphyxiated, law enforcement sources said. A Colombian man who was staying in the apartment with his wife told detectives that Smith had a visitor over earlier that morning but that he never saw the guest, according to law enforcement sources and reports. Gray death is a new “ drug cocktail ” that looks like concrete, which is where it gets its name. It contains a deadly mix of heroin, fentanyl, the elephant tranquilizer carfentanil , and a synthetic opioid called U-47700. Greenwood police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Coventry Court on March 18 around 8 p.m. A woman was inside an apartment at Polo Run Apartments laying on the floor, unconscious. Medics arrived at the same time the officer did and narcan was used on the woman, identified as Hanna Richard, 19. San Mateo County bans smoking inside apartments, condos and townhomes

Smoking either tobacco or electronic cigarettes will be prohibited inside apartments , condominiums and townhomes in unincorporated areas of San Mateo County under a ban approved 4-1 Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors. Supervisors Carole Groom and Adrienne Tissier pushed the ordinance, which outlaws smoking inside and around multiple-unit buildings with one or more shared ceilings, floors, walls or ventilation systems. The ordinance also applies to any such buildings owned or leased by the county, regardless of where they are located. Second-hand smoke that wafts between rooms poses a danger to other occupants in the same building, according to county health officials . “We have a responsibility as a county to protect the health of our residents,” Tissier said. ROSEVILLE, Calif. (KCRA) — The deadline for some renters at the Shadowbrook Apartments in Roseville to vacate their units for renovations is Monday. Some residents told KCRA 3 they were recently visited by a law enforcement officer and the property manager, and told they could face charges and be arrested if they didn't leave by Monday.  Advertisement Watch report: Roseville renters given deadline to move out "We think that is horrible," said Darlene Reid, a resident of the complex, who said she felt intimidated. OVIEDO, Fla. - New video was released Wednesday in connection with a crash near the University of Central Florida in which a student was killed. Austin Ekern, 20, who attended Florida State University and was the son of a longtime UCF staff member , was run over and killed Friday on Alafaya Trail near McCulloch Road. "I have a 20-year-old son who is in the prime of his life and it was taken in an instant," Brent Ekern, Austin's father, told News 6. The video, obtained from a nearby apartment complex , shows a white van and black car traveling through the area, and the Florida Highway Patrol said it believes the black car struck Austin Ekern and knocked him down onto Alafaya Trail.  Troopers said that up to a minute later a pickup truck ran over Austin Ekern, killing him. Russian Government to Help Find Family of Rescued Amber Alert Child

The Russian government is seeking information and pledging assistance in the Amber Alert case of the nine-year-old son of Russian parents who has been orphaned by their deaths. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services took responsibility for care of the child until arrangements can be made, preferrably with other relatives or close family friends .  His mother was found slain near Santa Maria on Monday, allegedly by his father, who died Tuesday evening in a confrontation with Los Angeles Police . Police: ISU student arrested after kidnapping motorist at knifepoint | Local

POCATELLO — An Idaho State University student is facing multiple felony charges after police say he held a motorist at knifepoint, forcing the motorist to give him a ride. Police said 23-year-old Saud Khalid Almudaiheem , a student from Saudi Arabia who is living in Pocatello, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one felony charge of second- degree kidnapping . Around 2 a.m. Sunday, police said they received a call from a motorist claiming that Almudaiheem brandished a black box- cutter style knife and demanded a ride from the Jacksons Food Stores on South Fifth Avenue to an area near the Ridgecrest Apartments on Bartz Way.
