MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Montclair Planning board met on Monday night to discuss adjustments made to the plans for the redevelopment of the former Diva Lounge on Bloomfield Ave. This building, which has been uninhabited for many years except for an auto repair business , is expected to be transformed into a mixed used facility containing both apartment buildings and retail space. However, many residents and planning board members have expressed concern regarding its size and the impact that it would have on the surrounding community. Christine A. According to the revised plan, the site will now contain 11 apartments and 3600 square feet of retail space, rather than 19 units as previously proposed. New properties could be built in the heart of Chesterfield. MJ Developments (Chesterfield) Ltd has submitted a planning application to Chesterfield Borough Council to convert the currently vacant first and second floors of 1-3 Knifesmithgate into ten apartments. The ground floor, which is occupied by the Odyssey restaurant, does not form part of the application. The application states: "The proposed development provides sustainable centralised town centre living in the form of well proportioned residential apartments in the heart of the popular market town . "As it is important to retain as much of the original character as possible, there is very limited proposed alteration to the elevations, particularly to the outward street facing elevations . The Montclair Planning Board finished hearing one application and punted two more into September at its August 14 meeting .  But the application that wrapped up and was subsequently approved was a big leap in the board’s efforts at getting larger projects resolved , as it was local developer Steven Plofker ’s application for a five-story, 11- unit apartment building along North Willow Street that will incorporate the former Diva Lounge on Bloomfield Avenue as modest retail space .  The property is a lot merged several years ago. ROTTERDAM -- Plans to build a multi- faceted senior citizen community off Helderberg Avenue have been withdrawn by the developer in the face of opposition from residents and some Town Board members . Developer Lou Lecce pulled the application for the Whispering Pines senior complex at the end of a two- hour Town Board public hearing on the project Wednesday night . It was the second hearing in three weeks at which many Helderbeg Avenue neighbors spoke against the concept. "It's off the table. We're done," Lecce told the Town Board, after a series of verbal exchanges between Town Board members and the audience. Lecce said the project he proposed was a good one, but he didn't believe any new analyses he could present about traffic impacts or other issues would overcome the opposition of the crowd. A saga spanning the last year and a half over whether Lafayette's Circle Motel — a collection of ramshackle buildings with an even grainier past — should remain preserved as a part of the city's history was decided earlier this week, and it looks like the venerable motel will be allowed to redevelop. The news came to the delight of the owner, Mike Macinko, whose disdain for the dilapidated buildings has led to the spectacle of an owner actively, and publicly, campaigning to demolish his own property. The City Council tabled the discussion in December after being unable to find whether or not the structures on the property were of " overwhelming historical significance to the community," as required under the city's Historical Preservation Board . The York County Board of Supervisors approved rezoning and a special use permit for three parcels near the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Route 17 to allow construction of a senior living facility . The vote at Tuesday’s meeting was 4-1 in favor, with board Chairwoman Sheila Noll voting against rezoning. Noll said she supported the project’s purpose, design and economic impact, but could not support its location, given the area’s traffic. The 9.2 acres of land was rezoned from high density residential to general business. The developer, Georgia- based Landbridge Acquisitions , is planning 170 age- restricted living units , including independent living , assisted living and memory care units . The facility is to be called the Phoenix at Yorktown. More than half of the housing units will be independent living apartments . After Holland City Council approved an affordable housing development earlier this year, developer General Capital could not secure funding through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority , and Reliable Sports owner Ken Vos sold to another buyer who wants to keep the business open. Vos confirmed that the building is under contract to be sold in a sale that will be finalized at the end of September. The building located at 254 S. River Ave. was sold in July. Vos declined to share who the new owner will be, but said they "are a prominent figure in downtown Holland ." He still plans to retire, and a retirement sale is underway at the store.
