AGOURA, CA - AMCAL Multi-Housing, one of California's leading builders of workforce and affordable housing , has just announced plans for two new, apartment developments in Los Angeles stemming from the recent funding from California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC). TCAC funding will be used by AMCAL to finance the Argyle Apartments, a 40-unit development in Hollywood, and the Terracina Apartments, a 72-unit development in South LA. Construction on both is set to begin this Fall. Arapahoe County Foundation fund for Southview Apartment Fire Victims established LITTLETON , CO — A fund has been established through the Arapahoe County Foundation to assist victims of the Southview Place Towers Apartments fire that occurred on April 6 in the 5800 block of S. Windermere St. More than 130 senior citizens have been displaced by the fire and although all are now in housing, the crisis is far from over and many of the current housing solutions are temporary. Residents were informed this week that their leases will be terminated and they will not be able to return to their apartments due to smoke and asbestos damage. Additionally, some residents were told that they must pack and move all of their furnishings and belongings within the next 10 days, and others were told that they could never retrieve their items due to contamination. The long retail spine of Sydney Road, Brunswick, just north of Melbourne's CBD, was once a prosperous trading outpost on the way to the goldfields. These days it's a bohemian mix of variety stores, op shops, halal butchers and Lebanese bakeries. Take a side street to the west, however, and a different picture emerges. Sandwiched between Sydney Road and the Upfield train line is an area undergoing rapid and widespread transformation. Light industry is fast being replaced by mid- rise apartment buildings , their inhabitants attracted by the short commute into town and cheaper prices than in the city's south-east. The quality of these units is, on the whole, depressingly bad; think poor ventilation and bedrooms that "borrow" natural light (a weasel word for being dark and windowless). For the first time in 40 years, Detroit’s famed Lafayette Park has a new addition. Designed by Detroit- based McIntosh Poris Associates , DuCharme Place is a 185- unit apartment community comprised of four midrise buildings. Adding to the Mies van der Rohe–designed historic district, the new development plays liberally with many of Mies’s original concepts. The long history of Lafayette Park includes the “slum” clearing urban renewal of postwar urban centers , the rise of modernist housing blocks in the U.S., and the realization of one of Mies’s largest housing projects . The first projects to be completed in the development were the Mies- designed Pavilion Apartments and a series of townhouses that are most often associated with the neighborhood. The Montclair Planning Board finished hearing one application and punted two more into September at its August 14 meeting .  But the application that wrapped up and was subsequently approved was a big leap in the board’s efforts at getting larger projects resolved , as it was local developer Steven Plofker ’s application for a five-story, 11- unit apartment building along North Willow Street that will incorporate the former Diva Lounge on Bloomfield Avenue as modest retail space .  The property is a lot merged several years ago.
