CLEVELAND, Ohio - One of downtown Cleveland 's worst eyesores finally changed hands Monday , after years of court fights and false redevelopment starts . Alto Partners bought the long- vacant John Hartness Brown complex on Euclid Avenue for $9.1 million, in a deal that sprang from a messy foreclosure fight . The developer, a relative newcomer to the Cleveland real estate market , expects to fill the buildings with apartments, a hotel, retail and parking. Construction could start during the first few months of 2018. Stretching from 1001-1101 Euclid Ave., the John Hartness Brown complex spans three addresses and five facades on north side of the street. Thanks to troubled ownership, financial hurdles and lingering fallout from the Great Recession, the property has languished despite the surge in downtown living and the trend of turning historic buildings into housing and hotels. But why “ripper”? A ripper is “a tool that is used to tear or break something,” and the victims were actually torn open. After Jack’s killings, however, “ripper” came to mean “a murderer who mutilates victims’ bodies.” You can thank the media for that. Just like “gate” is added to any political scandal, the press now calls any killer who is bloody enough a ripper. It makes for a great headline because of the fear the word “ripper” conjures in the public’s mind. If the victims are prostitutes, so much the better. Over the last 100 years, the press has invoked “ripper” numerous times. But many of these rippers killed more than Jack did—some a lot more. WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WHDH/AP) — An arrest warrant has been issued for a Dorchester man who authorities say is wanted for the murder of a woman found dead in her Weymouth apartment. The Norfolk district attorney ’s office said Sunday night 43-year-old Kerrol Florizel Bailey is a former boyfriend of the victim. Officers performing a well-being check found 33-year-old Michele Clarke’s body early Saturday . Authorities say Clarke had suffered apparent “sharp trauma injuries.” The state medical examiner ’s office is working to determine the cause of death. The district attorney’s office says Bailey, who turns 44 on Monday, also uses the aliases Tony Smith and Cornell James. Authorities say he’s considered dangerous and may be armed. Although it’s not known if he’s left Massachusetts, authorities say he has family in Florida. Authorities say Bailey is likely driving a dark blue Ford pickup truck with license plate FF47BK . Morningside Park, a Kushner Companies- owned housing complex , in Middle River, Maryland (Philip Montgomery for The New York Times) Maryland’s two U.S. senators and four of its U.S. House representatives , all Democrats, sent a letter today to the large real- estate company owned by the family of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump ’s son-in-law and senior adviser, demanding information about the company’s management of 17 apartment complexes it owns in the state.
