Fire contained to portion of third floor inside Lakeside Village apartment complex

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP , MI —  Audrey Fobear, 80, was watching television when the fire alarms started blaring . She headed for the exit with the rest of her neighbors at Lakeside Village , a three- story apartment complex at 4370 Lakeside Circle . Fobear lives three doors down from where the fire started. "I just saw the door open and flames," she said. "Two people were trying to put them out." The child, identified as Liam Hardy, had "too much smoke inhalation" and his lungs stopped functioning , resulting in life support machines being turned off, said Benjamin Reed, the boy's uncle.  The 4-year-old was pronounced dead at 7 p.m. Wednesday. A skyscraper that would be the tallest residential building in California has been proposed for downtown Los Angeles as the neighborhood’s housing boom rolls on. Crescent Heights , a Miami- based developer , submitted a proposal to the city Planning Department this week to build a 70- story apartment building that would stand out in size and design amid the rapidly growing South Park district east of Staples Center. The 810-foot building with 794 units would be the third-tallest in Los Angeles behind the recently opened Wilshire Grand hotel and office tower and the U.S. Bank Tower office building completed in 1989. Last year, Crescent Heights completed Ten Thousand , a 40- story luxury apartment complex on Santa Monica Boulevard on the edge of Century City. The May 20 fire at Brookview Apartments near Edora Park has been deemed accidental, PFA Capt. Patrick Love said Tuesday. However, the cause and exact origin have not yet been released, and insurance investigators have also gotten involved.
