Lafayette man charged with confinement, battery | City
A Lafayette man has been charged with criminal confinement, domestic battery and intimidation after trapping a woman inside an apartment.
Chance Heathcote, 19, reportedly forced a woman to stay in an apartment by making her remove her clothes; he threatened her with a pipe, hit her with his hand and threatened to kill her and her son.
The victim reported to police that her juvenile brother and son had stayed at the apartment and at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, Heathcote began screaming about missing drugs. He then shoved her onto a couch and punched her when she tried to get up.
Another victim was located, according to an affidavit. This male victim indicated that Heathcote entered his room and demanded to know where his drugs were; he then took a curtain rod from a window and began to strike the victim.
The juvenile brother was reported to have escaped the apartment and contacted the police.
As of Thursday afternoon, Heathcote remained in the Tippecanoe County Jail with a $2,500 bond on his criminal confinement charges.
