Witnesses at Shadowbrook Apartments recount arrest of wanted felon
REDDING, Calif. - People were back to their usual activities at the Shadowbrook Apartments Saturday after their daily routines were put on hold Friday afternoon.
Redding police and S.W.A.T. teams camped outside the complex for almost eight hours after learning wanted felon Michael Felsch was staying in one of the apartments.
Christy Fox was painting her daughter's room when she got a call from her son, asking if she was safe.
"I was like what are you talking about? So he told me to come down and look and S.W.A.T. was here, and there was like four or five different cop cars and they actually had their guns drawn, and I was kind of scared cause I didn't know which unit they were trying to go in or out of," Fox said.
Fox said she saw police handcuff the woman who told them Felsch was armed inside her apartment.
"I was terrified, because I'm a single mom who lives here alone with her three girls. So thank God it was just me that was home at that point, but my daughter couldn't get home," Fox said.
She tried comforting the woman who said she was Felsch's girlfriend.
"She was a mess, she was crying and I didn't know what was going on so I asked if I could sit down and pray with her, and she's the one that said he'll come out. I don't know, I think it was big miscommunication or something like they didn't have to do what they did to get him out," Fox said.
Jessica was reading in her apartment, right across from the apartment Felsch was hiding in when police arrived.
"It was a little scary I guess, but it was kind of cool at the same time being in that situation, but being so close is a little nerve-racking," Jessica said.
She eventually had to be evacuated until Felsch was later arrested that night.
Fox said she is going to pay more attention to what's going on in the neighborhood, and if police activity continues, she will consider moving.
