Firefighters battle blaze at Greenville apartment building

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters are investigating what sparked a fire at an apartment building in Greenville early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at an apartment building along the 1100 block of Hampton Avenue just before 4:30 a.m. and said flames could be seen coming from the building.

Chief Steve Alverson with the Parker Fire Department said the building housed four apartments. Three of those apartments were damaged and two suffered extensive damage.

Alverson said everyone made it out of the building safely. At least 3 people were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Alverson said the cause was under investigation.

The fire chief encouraged anyone who lives in an apartment to purchase renters insurance in case of a fire.
