Mother, 7-Year-Old Son Found Dead in Cheektowaga Apartment

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- A mother and her young son were found dead in an apartment complex on French Road in Cheektowaga, according to Cheektowaga police.

The bodies of Raina Voll, 30, and her son Leo Klinger, 7, were discovered by Cheektowaga police officers around 6 p.m. Thursday. Earlier that day, police found Voll's other son, a 2-year-old, abandoned in stroller near a church four miles away.

Through investigation, police found out that the boy lived in Kingswood Apartments, where the bodies of his mother and his brother were found.

Police believe Voll was in a relationship with the man charged in connection with her and her son's death. Shane Stevenson pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. He was denied bail and will be in court again next week. Stevenson is not the father of either child, police said.

"To see what another human being can do to another person, especially a 7-year-old is traumatic. Most of our officers have kids of their own. It's hard to believe. They're traumatized by it to some degree," said Cheektowaga Police Assistant Chief Jim Speyer.

Police would not give any details as to how the mother and her son were killed.

Leo attended school in Depew. The 2-year-old is in the custody of his biological father.

A family friend has started a fundraising page for the victim's family. The post says the 7-year-old that was killed was a bright, rambunctious, goofy child. The page has a $10,000 goal.
