A small cluster described as “Far Southeast” Albuquerque was among the city’s most prolific areas for crime from 2014 through 2016, according to ABQ i-team.
With just under 5,000 residents, the area has slightly less than 1 percent of the city’s population. It stretches south from Interstate 40 to Horseshoe Trail and Singing Arrow and from Four Hills Road west to southern Juan Tabo.
Though small in size and population, 4.5 percent of the people arrested in the city for robberies of an individual and 3.7 percent of those arrested for auto burglaries live in this area.
A lot of crime happens within the area, too.
Violent crimes have occurred at one in 10 addresses and property crimes have occurred at one in three addresses over the past three years.
Much of the crime in the area occurs along Central – 109 assaults were reported on the city’s main street between Juan Tabo and Four Hills Road – but crime is also concentrated at the apartment complexes clustered in the area.
During the period studied, 67 percent of murders, 50 percent of nonfatal shootings with injuries and 39 percent of auto burglaries and auto thefts in the area occurred at apartment complexes along Singing Arrow Avenue.
Also during those years, 30 violent crimes were reported at the Casa Bella Apartments, 22 were reported at the Canyon Point Apartments and 19 were reported at the Whispering Sands Apartments.
And reports of nonlarceny property crimes numbered 76 at the Arrowhead Pointe Apartments, 71 at the Whispering Sands Apartments and 55 at the Manzano Vista Apartments.
About 50 residential burglaries were reported at the large mobile home park in the area.
