Very comfortable apartment! - Review of Lake Buena Vista Resort Village & Spa, Orlando

We travelled 26 July to 9 August. We booked as a package holiday through Virgin. We are a family of 5, with 16, 12 and 4 year olds and we had the 3 bed 2 bathroom option. Rooms were huge, and adequately equipped. There was plenty of hanging and storage space (other than in the kitchen) and we had a safe. Kitchen well equipped with microwave, massive fridge, large oven and hob, enough cutlery and crockery and a dish washer. We found it easy to cook simple meals and had enough kitchen items to do this only thing we had missing was a baking tray but we made do. We didn't add any cleaning or maid services to our package, mainly to save a bit of money. There was a hoover and dustpan and brush for use, so it depends what you want from your holiday, me and my hubby were quite happy to run round with a hoover or surface spray (which we bought) while the other bathed our 4 year old and put him to bed. We also had a washing machine and tumble dryer so washing towels or bedding was easy (you will need to buy washing stuff). We choose not to take a drive option and were a little concerned after reading other hotel reviews but this worked ok for us. We had Disney and Universal tickets so we used the free hotel bus service, they also travel to Sea World. Buses were often over booked and a little tired looking but drivers friendly enough. Times of the bus are limited but it saved us having to pay for parking which at Disney starts from $20 per day. Buses we often over booked meaning people having to stand but we always managed to get the kids seated. It's about 20 mins on the bus to Disney, the bus only stops at Epcot but as this is the centre of Disney it was easy to travel on to other parks and attractions other than Disney Springs which was 2 bus rides and Typhoon Lagoon which was 3 buses from Epcot. Universal bus was over 20 mins maybe hitting 30 mins travel depending on traffic but it's the same buses and drivers. Pool was enjoyed by all. There is a pool bar serving serving light meals and plenty of different drinks. There are free towels at the pool and we never struggled to get beds, there is a shallow sloped area at one end and steps to a deeper area at the other with a pirate ship slide (recommended for over 122cm) in the middle. Food and drinks there were as expected, our kids really enjoyed the soft pretzels and the pizza was good, staff were great too. We ate at Frankie Farrel's one night and found the food and drink quite expensive for what it was, though the staff were lovely and there was a nice pub atmosphere. The only downside to our stay was the on site shop. Prices in there were extortionate, we got around this by going to Walmart. Walmart is a short taxi ride (ranging in price from $5-15), we did walk it but it's a bit of a unpleasant walk along the main road and there is not a path in all places. Also we found if we'd got back from a day at out and needed something the garage accross the road was useful, though a reasonable walk. Not as cheap as Walmart but it sells beer, wine, bread, milk, sweet and savory snacks and an assortment of soft drinks. Overall a very pleasant experience and would definitely stay there again.
