Man injured defending stepdaughter from ex

As of Wednesday evening, Jonathan Shane Thompson, 31, 1134 1/2 Ridgecrest Road Lot 6, remained held in the Hawkins County Jail on $5,000 bond.

On Aug. 2 around 11 a.m., Church Hill Police Department Detective Ethan Mays responded to an assault complaint at a residence in the 200 block of West Main Boulevard.

Mays reportedly observed the victim, Brian Ash, “bleeding profusely from the head and arms.”

The stepdaughter, Sandy Wooten, reportedly stated that Thompson came to the residence uninvited and knocked, and she opened the door without knowing who it was.

“Ms. Wooten attempted to close it, but Mr. Thompson put his foot in the doorway and pushed his way into the residence,” Mays stated in his report. “During this time, Mr. Ash heard his stepdaughter screaming and came to her aid to see Mr. Thompson in the residence.”

Thompson then allegedly attacked Ash, causing a serious, 1.5-inch gash to his forehead as well as several scrapes and cuts to his forearms.

Ash stated that Thompson only used his fists, but Mays deduced that Thompson must have been wearing a ring or some sort of weapon on his finger.

Ash declined transport by EMS and was instead taken to the hospital by his wife.

By the time Mays arrived, Thompson had left the scene, but he was arrested the next day at Dogwood Terrace Apartments.

During Monday’s arraignment, Judge J. Todd Ross issued Thompson a “no contact” order with his alleged victims should he be released on bond.

Thompson is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Hawkins County Sessions Court on Aug. 21.
