16-year-old seriously injured during accidental shooting at Tom Brown Village

A teen received life-threatening injuries after he accidentally shot himself in the face in Avondale on Monday night, Birmingham police said.

The shooting took place inside an apartment in the Tom Brown Village housing authority, Lt. Sean Edwards said. Police received a call from the 4100 block of Messer Airport Highway about the 16-year-old victim around 10:39 p.m. The teen has been taken to the hospital.

Officers are still investigating the scene. No additional information was released.
