Complaints continue at the Pavilion on 62nd

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - People who just moved into The Pavilion on 62nd do not want to live there anymore. TV-20 covered the story over the weekend of one young man who was able to break his lease at the Gainesville apartment complex. His would-be roommate can't seem to catch the same break.

The people who work at The Pavilion on 62nd said they do not terminate leases, but on move in day, Herman Younger broke his lease. Alexander Hammond, Younger's would-be roommate, wants to break his lease too, but the apartment managers will not let him.

"I walked in expecting a clean house and what I paid for and I come into the house and there's basically someone sleeping on the couch," Hammond said.

Spokesperson for The Pavilion on 62nd Bob Hetherington said, "The sleeping gentleman was in fact the brother of one of the apartment roommates."

Still, hammond said the apartment was in bad condition. "There are piles of clothes taking over the whole living room. The kitchen was grimy, it was pretty bad."

Hammond lived in a different unit at Pavilion last year, but said he hoped things would change this time around. He said, "I was supposed to roommate with someone somewhere else and they kind of bailed on me at the last second and everywhere else was filled up and Pavilion was my only option."

Hetherington said in a statement, "Team members at The Pavilion on 62nd have worked well with the few residents who were inconvenienced recently when some apartments were not cleaned and ready on time. As appropriate, we have provided alternative lodging at area hotels, picked up the cost of meals at local restaurants and offered move-in and rent credits."

Hammond said, "It's been almost a week now and they haven't done anything, so I'm just trying to get out of here."

Hetherington said they are doing what they can to take care of their residents.
