Man charged in Craigslist prostitute murder
A trail of blood allegedly led police from a woman’s bludgeoned corpse to a Long Island man’s apartment — and now he has been charged with beating her to death with a hammer after a Craigslist sex-for-cash rendezvous.
Raphael Oyague, 36, of Baldwin, pleaded not guilty to the murder Thursday after being walked out of Nassau County Police Headquarters.
“The encounter was for sex,” said Capt. John Azzata, commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad, according to CBS New York.
“There was supposed to be compensation for that sex. There was an argument that ensued, and our subject hit our victim with a hammer multiple times,” he said.
Cops say Oyague had contacted the 25-year-old woman on Craigslist and met her Tuesday night. Police did not release her name.
Oyague allegedly killed her in the apartment and, at around 10 p.m., carried her body down a staircase and out of his building.
He allegedly dumped her in a grassy area behind his apartment, Newsday said.
Her body was found Wednesday afternoon by two delivery drivers for the nearby De Francisco’s Pizzeria on Merrick Avenue, police said.
Detectives also said they found drops of blood leading to Oyague’s door.
He was arrested Wednesday and was being held without bail.
