School supply giveaway, poker run keep Wagoner Elks on the go | News
It has been a busy few weeks for the Wagoner Elks Lodge, and members are excited about what they are doing in the community.
In July, the Lodge partnered with Autumn Wood Apartments Manager David Nickerson and the Women of Wagoner to help supply children in the apartment complex with much needed school supplies.
“Thanks to the ENF 150th Anniversary Grant, the Women of Wagoner and the support of Elk’s members, we were able to fill 81 backpacks with school supplies,” member Betty Cox reported.
Elks Lodge members Ann Gendron, Debi McGlothlin, Penny Kumrow, Marilyn Nickerson, Betty Cox, Debbie Baugh and Brett Baugh were joined by Elroy the Drug Dog to help hand out bags. They also served a free hotdog meal to all the families who attended.
“We are proud to be a part of supporting our youth of tomorrow,” Cox said.
In other Lodge news, members held their annual Lake Poker Run Saturday, Aug. 5. While the weather was nice, some stops had to be moved due to the wind.
“The Pivec’s had to move to Long Bay with the Kumrow’s and Bob and Eddi Clarkson had to move their boat away from the shore several times,” Cox reported. “Thanks to Jim Dobbs and his mother, Bonnie Dobbs, Steve and Penny Kumrow, Jim and Pam Pivec, Bob and Eddi Clarkson, Marianne and Neal Boston, Ray Robertson, June Stuckey, Jim and Kim Ladd, Charles and Deborah Mertz, everyone enjoyed the stops.”
A total of 118 entrants participated in the Lake Poker Run. High hand winner was Jeff Stout and low hand winner was Larry East. Queen of Hearts Winners – Allie Bryan, Brittany East, Bobby Walker, Sherry Morsey, Brandy Bennett, Chad Boles and Dixie Ramutis. They split a prize pot of $273.
Brandy Bennett and Chad Boles donated their winnings to the veterans.
“With their donation and the queen of Hearts, the Elks raised $355 for the veterans,” Cox reported.
Cox said everyone enjoyed sloppy joe’s and tator tots at the Elks Lodge after the event. She extended her appreciation to Cindy Spars, Michelle Brown and Courtney Brown who worked in the kitchen.
