Police: Saturday stabbing at Southview Apartments was self-defense | Local news

SIOUX CITY | The person who injured a man with a knife Saturday evening at a Sioux City apartment complex was acting in self-defense, police said.

Sioux City Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance at Southview Apartments, 2728 S. Helen St., Apt. 14., around 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

According to a news release, Jamal Levon Randolph, 35, had forced his way into the residence and assaulted people inside. One of the assault victims then inflicted Randolph with a "non-life-threatening knife wound," the release said.

Sgt. Jay Hoogendyk said Sunday that Randolph had been unarmed.

Randolph was taken by authorities to a local hospital, where his wound was treated. None of the victims of the burglary needed medical attention, Hoogendyk said.

Randolph was then taken to the Woodbury County Jail and charged with first-degree burglary, assault while participating in a felony, simple domestic assault and two counts of serious assault. He is being held on $37,000 bond.

No charges will be filed against the person who inflicted the wound, the release said.
