ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Editor’s note: This is the third of five maps detailing census clusters in the city with the worst concentrations of crime from 2014 through 2016, based on an analysis by the Albuquerque Innovation Team . Here are some details of the Far Southeast zone . A small cluster described as “Far Southeast” Albuquerque was among the city’s most prolific areas for crime from 2014 through 2016, according to ABQ i-team. With just under 5,000 residents, the area has slightly less than 1 percent of the city’s population. It stretches south from Interstate 40 to Horseshoe Trail and Singing Arrow and from Four Hills Road west to southern Juan Tabo . Though small in size and population, 4.5 percent of the people arrested in the city for robberies of an individual and 3.7 percent of those arrested for auto burglaries live in this area. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An affordable housing project in Albuquerque’s Southeast Heights that has been in the works since 2015 officially opened Thursday . Described as a high- design urban infill site , the 89- unit Casa Feliz apartment complex is a $17. 2 million redevelopment project that received funding from four sources. The bulk came from $12.5 million in low- income housing tax credits from the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority . City support for the project, which is located in the International District, includes $2.8 million from the Affordable Housing Fund . The New Mexico Housing Trust Fund kicked in $1.5 million and $400,000 came through the Ventana Fund, a nonprofit organization administered by MFA. The development, which is located at 443 Española Street SE, consists of efficiency, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The San Mateo area features a mix of industrial, commercial and residential zones, but with a large concentration of multi-family housing – including several very large apartment complexes . Though this cluster of census zones covers less than 1 percent of Albuquerque’s land mass and contains just 1.2 percent of its population – 6,419 residents – it is an area with a heavy concentration of both violent and property crimes .
