Nearly all residents of the McPherson Park senior housing complex have returned to their residences after a kitchen fire broke out in an apartment Friday night , a Gloucester Housing Authority administrator said Monday. The building’s construction played a role in firefighters being able to confine the blaze to the single unit, said  Fire Chief Eric Smith and Alice Sheridan, assistant executive director of the  housing authority , which owns and manages the six-story building at 31 Prospect St. The man whose apartment was destroyed by the kitchen fire has been relocated to another apartment within the 97-unit building, Sheridan said.  Neither she nor Smith could provide information Monday on the status of a woman who was rescued by firefighters and taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital after she fell inside her fourth- floor apartment while trying to evacuate. THREE OAKS – No injuries were reported in an early morning fire that caused the evacuation of a 16-unit, two- story apartment building in Three Oaks on Saturday, Aug. 19. Fire Chief David Flick said the alarm of a structure fired came in at 5:40 a.m. and the middle section of the roof was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the Hidden Harbor Villas (formerly Oak Tree Apartments ) at 305 W. Locust St. The fire took about three hours to bring under control and wasn’t totally cleared until approximately 2 p.m. Peter Trigg said he came home from work at about 5:40 a.m. and immediately smelled burning plastic and heard popping sounds , went around to the back of the building and noticed that a second-floor unit’s deck was on fire. “I ran in, pulled the fire alarm as quick as I could, ran up the stairs and got my family out,” he said. Dozens of Westbury residents were displaced when a fire burned through their two- story apartment building Saturday afternoon , fire officials said. About 30 people living in the building in the Westwood Village complex on Brush Hollow Road were not able to return to their apartments. LAKE Macquarie is being transformed at a rate not seen for generations, with a construction frenzy spilling over from Newcastle and pushing Warners Bay and Charlestown skywards. The Lake Macquarie council area, which includes a swath of greater Newcastle suburbs and townships such as Morisset, Cooranbong and Swansea, had about 2,700 development applications worth $607 million approved in the last financial year . That is 550 more than the previous year, and an increase of 23.5 per cent. PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Parma Heights police are investigating whether a series of armed robberies are connected after multiple people were robbed at two different apartment complexes . The robberies happened Sunday and Monday in Parma Heights at Hidden Cove Apartments north of Pearl Road and Big Creek Apartments and Townhomes off of Stumph Road, police say. No one was hurt in any of the robberies, and no arrests have been made. The first two robberies happened Sunday  about 4:30 p.m. at Hidden Cove Apartments , Detective Adam Sloan said. Three women went to the apartment complex to meet a friend. When they got to the apartment building door , three men with semi-automatic handguns stole their purses, cellphones and keys, Sloan said. City Council members found themselves divided in their answers on Tuesday, but scraped together just enough votes to keep alive a rental housing building planned for the edge of Old Town. Two months after the Planning Commission rejected the Bridgeview Apartments, a split council revived the project on a 3-2 vote despite concerns it would worsen parking and traffic on the narrow streets around Riverside Drive. The vote sets up a final decision by the council on approving the apartments, a move that will require finalizing an agreement with its developer to set aside three units for families earning less than the local median income and guarantee that other tenants can continue using federally funded Section 8 vouchers to pay their rent. The long retail spine of Sydney Road, Brunswick, just north of Melbourne's CBD, was once a prosperous trading outpost on the way to the goldfields. These days it's a bohemian mix of variety stores, op shops, halal butchers and Lebanese bakeries. Take a side street to the west, however, and a different picture emerges. Sandwiched between Sydney Road and the Upfield train line is an area undergoing rapid and widespread transformation. Light industry is fast being replaced by mid- rise apartment buildings , their inhabitants attracted by the short commute into town and cheaper prices than in the city's south-east. The quality of these units is, on the whole, depressingly bad; think poor ventilation and bedrooms that "borrow" natural light (a weasel word for being dark and windowless).
