Recently, the company opened the first phase of its ONE Plan on- campus replacement housing at the Northern Michigan University (NMU). This development, named The Woods in Marquette, MI, has 417 beds in a living-learning community. The property boasts ample amenities , including Internet and Wi-Fi, classrooms, study rooms, TV lounges and laundry facilities. The entire $75.4- million project is, however, slated for final delivery in 2018. The development will include 1,229 beds. EdR is leasing the land from the university, and the project will be funded through EdR's On Campus Equity Plan - The ONE Plan. A skyscraper that would be the tallest residential building in California has been proposed for downtown Los Angeles as the neighborhood’s housing boom rolls on. Crescent Heights , a Miami- based developer , submitted a proposal to the city Planning Department this week to build a 70- story apartment building that would stand out in size and design amid the rapidly growing South Park district east of Staples Center. The 810-foot building with 794 units would be the third-tallest in Los Angeles behind the recently opened Wilshire Grand hotel and office tower and the U.S. Bank Tower office building completed in 1989. KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — The investigation into the fire that killed two people in a Kentwood apartment Friday morning centers on two questions: What cause the fire and did smoke detectors go off? For most of the residents of the building at Wingate Apartment complex , the first sign of trouble came with a panicked, middle of the night warning. “The window was opened and we heard a woman screaming there is a fire! There is a fire,” said Rachel Dotson-Hackworth, who lives next to the building where the fire happened. Kentwood firefighters arrived in minutes and pulled the victims from the lower level apartment , but it was too late. The victims have been identified as Mary Hopkins, 51 and 61-year-old Edward Newhouse who lived in the apartment together. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which started in a bed. One clue may be the smoking habits of one of the victims. “There are several other causes that we need to eliminate, and smoking is one of them,” Kentw...

LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been charged in connection with breaking into several apartments while naked south of Tacoma. Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says Curtis Sell was charged Wednesday with three counts of burglary with sexual motivation in connection with the break-ins and failure to register as a sex offender. Lindquist says police responded to a Lakewood apartment building Aug . 2 where a woman reported that she awoke to a naked man removing the fan from her bedroom window. She told police after she screamed and her boyfriend came in the room, the man ran away. Lindquist says that morning investigators were called to other nearby residences where two other women reported similar stories . In all three instances, Lindquist says, the women positively identified Sell from a photo line-up.
