The child, identified as Liam Hardy, had "too much smoke inhalation" and his lungs stopped functioning , resulting in life support machines being turned off, said Benjamin Reed, the boy's uncle.  The 4-year-old was pronounced dead at 7 p.m. Wednesday. A teenager was unable to save her 5-year-old sister from their burning apartment Tuesday night when roaring flames turned the apartment into an inferno, making it impossible to get to the second-floor where the child was watching television, officials said. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr . "Beau" Clark identified the girl as Treasure Garner, although her family says her last name is Hadley. She died in the fire at the Cedarwood Apartments on Cedarcrest Avenue . The fire started around 7 p.m. and burned for more than three hours, spreading to more than 10 apartments before firefighters could bring it under control. The May 20 fire at Brookview Apartments near Edora Park has been deemed accidental, PFA Capt. Patrick Love said Tuesday. However, the cause and exact origin have not yet been released, and insurance investigators have also gotten involved. Residents hope to return home after apartment fire

(Photo: WHAS) LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Several Jeffersontown families are hoping to return home Thursday while two people rescued from an apartment fire recover from their injuries. Around 9 p.m. Wednesday firefighters were called to the Chestnut Ridge Apartment Complex on Tree Lane. More than a dozen people were forced out of their homes. Officials say the fire was contained to one apartment on the third floor. "They were just trapped with the amount of smoke that was in their apartments. They were just trapped in the location where they were,” said Jeffersontown Fire Chief Sean Dreisbach . Firefighters say the fire started in the kitchen. © 2017 WHAS-TV

Man shot as he drove by Fort Worth drug house, police say

A man was shot and critically wounded Wednesday night as he drove by what authorities called a “known drug house,” police said. The motorist drove to an apartment complex where he sought help. The man was listed in critical condition. Police responded to the shooting call shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4300 block of Montecito Way at the Meridian Apartments. Officers determined the victim was driving by the house on North Elm Street when an unknown man armed with assault rifle walked out of the residence and opened fire. The motorist was hit in the abdomen, police said. The victim was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth .

MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – As water woes continue for some Mechanicville neighbors, the Department of Public Works is flushing fire hydrants to see if that will help clear up the brown color. Now going on weeks with brown water, Dawson Vanderveen is still making frequent walks to the store to pick up jugs of water. “I would still drink the bottled water until they actually find out what’s going on.” He showed NEWS10 ABC how discolored the water still is in his apartment, even after the Department of Public Works sent out a letter declaring the water safe. Vanderveen isn’t buying it. “It’s definitely not normal and not healthy like I wish they could find out what’s going on soon.” On Tuesday, there was a new effort from the DPW to solve the problem. They’re flushing area fire hydrants to help purge sediment in the system. San Rafael man identified in fatal Canal shooting

Authorities released the identity of a man who apparently killed himself with a gunshot to the head Monday after a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend and another man in San Rafael. The coroner’s office identified the man as Manuel Avila Primero , 35, of San Rafael. Coroner’s investigator Kenneth Advincula said Tuesday a forensic examination and toxicology tests are scheduled for Wednesday. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks. The case appears to be a suicide but the investigation is continuing, San Rafael police said. According to the preliminary investigation, a woman who lives in the 200 block of Canal Street went to a nightclub with a male friend on Sunday evening. Her ex-boyfriend, Primero, approached at the club and asked her to dance, and she declined. Primero left the club, but he showed up at her apartment early Monday morning , and the other man from the nightclub was there with her. A newborn baby was found outside a Houston apartment complex early Thursday covered in ants, according to multiple media reports . "She had the mucus and the blood and umbilical cord and everything", he told KHOU. Police link man to trio of break-ins in five days

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Authorities in Lehigh County have arrested a 44-year-old who allegedly broke into a house and stole TVs from a senior housing complex and an apartment building over a roughly five-day span. Allentown police charged Alex Fernandez , no confirmable address, in connection with the 2016 thefts from a Jackson Street home , Episcopal House and Bridgeview Apartments . District Judge David Howells Jr . arraigned Fernandez early Wednesday morning on three sets of charges, setting bail at a combined $38,000. A homeowner in the 900 block of Jackson Street reported to police that someone broke into his house sometime between April 27 and May 2, 2016, by climbing a rear fire escape and breaking a window, according to court records. The thief made off with a compressor and hammer drill worth about $1,100 and caused $150 in damage, according to records.
