VERO BEACH — Seven people have been displaced due to a fire that started in building 12 around 5:30 p.m. at Shadowbrook Apartments on 16th Street in Vero Beach. There were no known injuries. Two separate families in the building have been displaced - one because of the fire, the other due to smoke damage. The American Red Cross is on scene to assess what help the families will need. The fire started in the kitchen and was contained to a single unit. Smoke spread through some of the 10-unit building, according to the battalion chief on scene. The official cause is being investigated but the tenants in the unit told emergency dispatchers it was a grease fire. Five engines, a ladder truck, and one ambulance responded to the fire.

They never give the tenants notices if they are going to leave early or take a day off. The lady in the office seriously locks the door and sleeps all day at her desk. You walk in the back door and see the drool running down her face. Unbelievable! I have lived in a lot of apartments, and the response and accountability of Shadowbrook is by far the worse I have ever encountered. (KCRA) — Dozens of Roseville families are being forced to vacate their apartments by the end of June after a balcony collapse alerted the city to many safety problems at Shadowbrook Apartments. The city told KCRA 3 on Thursday that the buildings, which are more than 30 years old, have not been well maintained. The Redmond Police Department said the attack happened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Shadowbrook Apartments . A woman in her early 30s was studying in her apartment with her sliding glass door open when a man walked in, turned off the lights in her bedroom, held a knife to her throat and raped her. WEST VALLEY CITY , Utah - Police say a woman led them on a chase through West Valley City overnight and then hid in a man's apartment. Officers said the chase ended when the suspect crashed a stolen car into a water fountain outside of the Shadowbrook Apartments near 3800 S. and Redwood Rd. Police spotted the car just before 4 a.m. When officers tried to pull over the driver, she sped off. Authorities spiked the tires near 3500 S. Redwood Rd. and the suspect ran, hiding in a family's apartment. "We were notified by the homeowner that the female suspect got into his apartment as he had left with his three children," Robert Hamilton said, West Valley City Police . "She was still inside the home when he came back he saw her and immediately called police ." Authorities arrested the suspect who is now facing numerous charges .
