Testimony: JD Hall’s Recent Visit to Heretic Jim Bakker’s Studio

Image
The following testimony from JD Hall regarding a recent visit to Jim Bakker’s studio and Morningside Ministries was sent to Pulpit & Pen for publishing. While on a working vacation in Branson, Missouri on August 2 – just prior to my debate on Cessationism and Charismaticism in Cleveland the following weekend – I spent time with my extended family on the campus of College of the Ozarks. While there, I planned to visit the television studios and survivalist retreat (for lack of a better word) of Jim Bakker, the disgraced televangelist who had a multi-millionaire fund his ministry come back and who is now hustling survival supplies in the name of Jesus. Prior to leaving on vacation, I planned this visit to Morningside and received permission for what I had expected would happen from my local church leadership , lest anyone think I am a completely crazy man who had gone rogue or something like that. My leadership gave me the okay to do what I, indeed, ended up doing. First, a few th...

A masked man robbed a pizza delivery man at gunpoint early Friday at a northeast Odessa apartment building and ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The pizza delivery man told officers he went across the street to the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant to flag down the off- duty OPD officer . After arriving at the North Grandview Avenue apartment complex , the pizza delivery man told authorities that he was approached by a black man who aimed a pistol at him. The suspect took the pizza bag...

Villa Del Sol Apartments - 12 Photos & 11 Reviews - Apartments - 811 S. Fairview Avenue, Santa Ana, CA - Phone Number

11 811 S. Fairview Avenue Santa Ana , CA 92704 (844) 611-0589 Just wanted to mention that Edwin, the Leasing Specialist, is amazing! We needed an apartment asap, and he made it happen very efficiently. We would totally recommend to talk to him if you're looking in renting an apartment in Villa Del Sol, which is a very beautiful complex! If you only have one car it's a good place to live but if you have a second car, parking is a bitch. I've had my car towed several time do to the fact that their is no parking in the property. So I've parked near a shopping center and if you even plan to park your car across the street (fairview) though streets are private and can get cited. If you plan to rent a parking lift, good luck management has a waiting list and you'll be paying over $100 a month. It's not really a place for kids because teenagers come and smoke weed near the kids and the "security's" guys don't do anything but just talk to them as if...

Arapahoe County Foundation fund for Southview Apartment Fire Victims established LITTLETON , CO — A fund has been established through the Arapahoe County Foundation to assist victims of the Southview Place Towers Apartments fire that occurred on April 6 in the 5800 block of S. Windermere St. More than 130 senior citizens have been displaced by the fire and although all are now in housing, the crisis is far from over and many of the current housing solutions are temporary. Residents were informed this week that their leases will be terminated and they will not be able to return to their apartments due to smoke and asbestos damage. Additionally, some residents were told that they must pack and move all of their furnishings and belongings within the next 10 days, and others were told that they could never retrieve their items due to contamination. Many of these seniors have lived here for years and lack the financial resources to cope with this disaster. Arapahoe County Commissione...

A Perspective on 'When Things Fall Apart'

Author Pema Chodron has been on my radar for a while, but you know how it is when life keeps moving and you mean to get to something. Continue Reading Below Well, I got to Chodron this week, or perhaps more accurately, this wise American Buddhist nun got to me. I have read just three essays – a total of 17 pages – in her book When Things Fall Apart and already my perspective has widened on the personal, the political, the global. It is exquisitely written. While its subtitle, “Heart Advice for Difficult Times,” suggests a personal message, it is impossible while reading it not to think of what is happening in Egypt or apply its wisdom to almost any significant movement where people are pushing through what is troubling or oppressive. “When things fall apart and we’re on the verge of we know not what, the test for each of us is to stay on that brink and not concretize,” Chodron writes. Is this not simultaneously more difficult and much easier when applied to a collective? People join...

Trapped by a search for freedom, the life of an Alabama refugee

Just a couple of miles from the Mexican border, where approximately 200, 000 immigrants illegally cross every year, 14-year-old Guatemalan Byron Raxcaco came face-to-face with reality of life on this nearly 2,000 mile border. A local drug lord demanded that Raxcaco and his chaperone pay $800 for safe passage across the border, where criminal gangs ferry humans and drugs across daily, and where police presence is almost non-existent, he said in an interview with AL.com. Poor and desperate to reach the U.S., Raxcaco was detained in a hotel in the Mexican region of Senora for a day until his aunt in Semmes, Alabama, gathered the money for the drug lord. After paying up, Raxcaco was released and free to start a new life in the United States.  He approached a border patrol post , told them he was an unaccompanied minor and asked for political asylum. In the four years since crossing the border, he has moved in with his aunt, enrolled in school, learned English, and got himself a girlfri...

Jim Bakker prepares Missouri town for Eclipse fallout

Image
As President Donald Trump promised to unleash 'fire and fury' on North Korea,  a slightly-built, bearded TV evangelist bragged of his recent visit to the White House and warned of an up-coming ' nuclear winter .' Jim Bakker's studio audience whooped and cheered – before reaching deep into their pockets to buy 'Staying Alive' food - buckets full of freeze- dried products apparently capable of sustaining survivors through the Apocalypse. The charismatic pastor then made an impassioned plea for money to keep his ministry afloat – suggesting a year's supply of pancakes with a 30- year shelf life for an apparent bargain $550 or four cheaply published books for $40 to tide readers over through Armageddon. sell food buckets full of freeze- dried products , claiming the meals will keep followers alive after the Apocalypse" class="blkBorder img-share" /> Jim Bakker (pictured with wife Lori) uses his platform as a televangelist to sell f...
